Jackies life is to be celebrated and remembered for years to come. A standout runner for many years at Oyster Bay High School she set the 2000 meter steeple chase record in spring track, and had qualified for the state championships in both track and cross country.
Jackie was well known for her kindness and easy nature - traits she took with her as a standout athlete for Hunter College, as well as the west coast where she was a high school science teacher and track coach. Jackie was so excited to begin the 2017 school year as a cross country coach for over 100 girls!
With the blessing of Jackie's parents, the scholarship will be awarded to a senior at Oyster Bay High School at the annual athletic banquet. This will ensure that her legacy will live on in a community that was graced with her presence in so many ways.
I know the pain of Jackies loss still stings- I feel a daily sadness, and I know so many people that want to do something, so that something positive could come from this tragedy.
