David against Goliath

Wir bitten euch dringend um Unterstützung für unseren David.

Seit Oktober 2022 kämpft David gegen eine extrem seltene Form von Knochenkrebs und wir bitten um Spenden, um ihm eine Behandlung in Amerika zu ermöglichen. Seine letzte Hilfe!

David ist 25 Jahre alt und ein sehr lebensfroher und lustiger Mensch. Er arbeitet seit dem erfolgreichen Abschluss seiner Ausbildung als Industriemechaniker im Ausbildungsbetrieb und wollte sich noch beruflich weiterbilden. Seine Freizeit verbringt er seit über 10 Jahren leidenschaftlich gern im Dienst der freiwilligen Feuerwehr in seinem Heimatdorf. Durch seinen Eifer wurde er hier auch Jugendwart und konnte zahlreiche Einsätze begleiten. Auch in den wenigen Monaten seit seiner Erkrankung, in dem es ihm körperlich möglich war, hat er seine Kameraden der FFW unterstützt, und sei es nur als Funker.

Kurz zu seiner Krankheitsgeschichte:

Im Oktober 2022 wurde durch eine Biopsie bei David ein sogenanntes Chondrosarkom im Bereich des Beckens diagnostiziert. Dabei handelt es sich um eine besonders seltene Form von Knochenkrebs. Bei der OP im November 2022 wurde ihm der Tumor entnommen, der vom Steißbein nach innen in die Bauchhöhle gewachsen war und ein Gewicht von fast 2 kg hatte. Laut den Ärzten wurde der Tumor vollständig entfernt und es sei weder eine Bestrahlung noch Chemo nötig. Bei der Kontrolle durch ein MRT im März 2023 und Juni 2023 wurde durch die Ärzte mitgeteilt, dass alles in Ordnung sei und auf den Bildern nichts zu sehen wäre. Im September wurde bei einer erneuten Kontrolle durch ein MRT festgestellt, dass sich bei David doch multilokale Metastasen im Körper gebildet haben. Diese seien nicht mehr operabel und man empfahl eine Chemotherapie in Tablettenform. Allerdings schlug diese Behandlung fehl und die Metastasen sind weiter gewachsen. Darum hat man sich dazu entschieden, eine herkömmliche Chemotherapie in Verbindung mit Hyperthermie zu starten. Diese Behandlung wurde Anfang Juli 2024 beendet und konnte das Wachstum kurzfristig stoppen. Im Anschluss wurde eine Erhaltungstherapie in Tablettenform begonnen. Diese Maßnahme sollte laut Klinik bis Juni 2025 wirken. Erneute Beschwerden traten aber bereits im Dezember 2024 wieder auf. Eine Medikamentenstudie in Deutschland, bei der David mitmachen hätte können, wurde leider aufgrund der Seltenheit der Krebsform im Frühjahr 2025 eingestellt. Der aktuelle Stand ist, dass es in Deutschland keine Möglichkeiten mehr für David gibt, eine OP ist hier nicht möglich und laut den Ärzten ist er „austherapiert“.

Wir (seine Schwester Sophia mit ihrem Partner, seine Cousine Nicole und alle Kameraden der freiwilligen Feuerwehr Erharting) konnten und wollten dies nicht so hinnehmen, es musste doch irgendeine Möglichkeit geben, David noch eine Chance zu geben.

Durch Recherche sind wir auf eine Klinik in Arizona gestoßen, die Mayo Clinic. Nach erfolgreicher Kontaktaufnahme und Austausch der Anamnese sowie sämtlicher Bilder wurde uns mitgeteilt, dass eine Behandlung möglich ist und David im September schon starten soll. Die Kosten für die Operation und die weitere Behandlung werden sich zunächst auf rund 400.000 € belaufen!

We urgently request your support for our David.

Since October 2022, David has been battling an extremely rare form of bone cancer, and we are asking for donations to enable him to receive treatment in the United States. This is his last chance!

David is 25 years old and a very cheerful and funny person. Since successfully completing his training as an industrial mechanic, he has been working at the company where he trained and wanted to continue his professional development. For over 10 years, he has spent his free time passionately serving in the volunteer fire department in his home village. Thanks to his enthusiasm, he also became a youth leader and was able to accompany numerous missions. Even in the few months since he fell ill, when he was physically able, he continued to support his comrades in the volunteer fire department, even if only as a radio operator.

A brief history of his illness:

In October 2022, a biopsy diagnosed David with chondrosarcoma in the pelvic area. This is a particularly rare form of bone cancer. During surgery in November 2022, the tumor, which had grown from the coccyx into the abdominal cavity and weighed almost 2 kg, was removed. According to the doctors, the tumor was completely removed and neither radiation nor chemotherapy was necessary. During follow-up MRI scans in March 2023 and June 2023, the doctors reported that everything was fine and that nothing could be seen on the images. In September, a follow-up MRI scan revealed that David had developed multiple metastases in his body. These were no longer operable, and chemotherapy in tablet form was recommended. However, this treatment failed and the metastases continued to grow. It was therefore decided to start conventional chemotherapy in combination with hyperthermia. This treatment was completed at the beginning of July 2024 and was able to stop the growth in the short term. Maintenance therapy in tablet form was then started. According to the clinic, this measure should be effective until June 2025. However, symptoms reappeared in December 2024. A drug trial in Germany in which David could have participated was unfortunately discontinued in spring 2025 due to the rarity of his form of cancer. The current situation is that there are no further options for David in Germany, surgery is not possible here, and according to the doctors, he has exhausted all treatment options.

We (his sister Sophia and her partner, his cousin Nicole, and all his friends from the Erharting volunteer fire department) could not and would not accept this. There had to be some way to give David another chance.

Through research, we came across a clinic in Arizona, the Mayo Clinic. After successfully establishing contact and exchanging medical history and all images, we were informed that treatment is possible and that David should start in September. The costs for the surgery and further treatment will initially amount to around €400,000!
