Epilepsy Seizure Testing Support

My name is Terri and my brother (Curtis) and his husband (Robbie) are in a tough spot. Robbie (in the photo, he's the one with the red/orange shirt) has medication-resistant epilepsy. For the past two weeks, he has been in the hospital, experiencing multiple daily seizures. The seizures last between 30 and 50 minutes in length which are dangerous. Curtis has been by his side every day. They occur about every 8 hours. During these seizures, Robbie is aware (they are called absent-aware seizures) and experiences pain. With the help of the amazing nursing staff, they guide him through the seizures, bringing encouragement and comfort as much as is possible.

Robbie will be transferred to Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, this coming week, where they will be doing extensive studying to determine the exact types of seizures he is having and, hopefully, come up with a solution. They have tried about a dozen medications and nothing has worked yet. We are expecting either surgical options or implanted devices.

While Robbie is an in-patient at Shand's at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Curtis will be getting a hotel room and that's where this comes in. If you are so moved to give, I'm creating this to help Curtis with the hotel, transportation costs, and other expenses while he is there. We suspect they will be there for anywhere from 5 to 15 days while studying is done, a determination is made, and treatment starts.
