Any amount that you are able to give is greatly appreciated, and beyond that, I hope we can continue to take care of and help one another.
March 2023- My mom and sister came to visit to me though a few days prior I started feeling ill. After the 2nd day of their visit, my mom suggested I go to the ER to see what sort of sickness I had, as it was only getting worse. After 13 hours in the ER they finally admitted me. I had 9 vials of blood drawn and 8 vials of fluid taken from a lumbar puncture (spinal tap), and still no answers as to what type of illness I had. The doctors said I was obviously sick but they tested me for all known illnesses (even the most rare) and all came back negative. On my 4th day in the hospital my white blood cells started returning and I was on the path of getting better and released from the hospital.
The next morning- My boyfriend woke up to me having my first ever seizure at the age of 27. I was taken back to the ER but not admitted. The following morning the same thing happened, but worse. I had my second seizure ever and was admitted back to the hospital. During my 4 day stay, I had 2 seizures and was placed in a high alert, recorded room. After more tests and multiple MRIs, the doctors still couldn’t find a root cause or a definitive answer as to why I was seizing, and why at this age with zero prior history. I'm also adopted so there was no way of checking for familial history. After a combination and high dosage of anti-seizure medication, and 2 days of no seizures, I was released back home. The following morning I had my 5th seizure. I wasn’t admitted back to the hospital as my body hadn’t fully adjusted to the anti-seizure medications. Two days later I had another episode, totaling 6 seizures in 9 days. There were conversations about me returning to the hospital but honestly I couldn’t afford it and said if it happened again I’d go. Thankfully I haven’t had one since. During this time, while my body adjusted to all the new medications, I had to take months off from work. I used the rest of my savings towards my hospital bills but unfortunately after insurance, still have an outstanding balance of $21,000.
Present day- I’m very grateful to all the doctors and nurses that helped me through this medical journey. My family is small, and I’m extremely thankful to any and all friends that have reached out or checked in during these difficult times. Lastly, thank you to anyone who took the time to read this and or donate. Please check in and take care of your loved ones!
