Support Paul Spanel’s Stroke Recovery Journey

Our dear friend Paul Spanel is fighting bravely against the effects of a stroke that he suffered on May 14th, and we’re raising funds to support his journey to recovery. We know he is facing a significant challenge as he works hard toward rehabilitation and regaining his health and independence.

Neurologists explained to family the severity and nature of the stroke and shared that the left side of his brain was affected more than his right side. Both sides of his temporal lobe, however, were affected. These are the areas that are responsible for processing sound, language and visual memory. As a result, we know that the right side of his body will be weaker than the left. He will also have struggles with long and short-term memory. The good news is that Paul is still constantly wanting to be moving, getting out of there, and has even been able to articulate a few choice words. For anyone who knows Paul, you know he hates not being able to move.

We are hopeful that some of his struggles will be helped with rehabilitation assistance over the next few months. Because he needs to focus on his rehabilitation, we are asking for help from friends and family to donate to help lighten the burden on Paul and his family.

How will your donation help?

• Medical Expenses – Paul will have significant medical expenses from this ordeal, and we hope to help alleviate as much of this new burden of medical bills, medications, and specialized equipment that will be so important for his recovery.

• Therapy / Rehabilitation – Right now it’s very important to allow Paul to participate in as much rehabilitation and therapy as possible to improve on his physical movement, his speech, and his ability to work. Paul’s specialized care over the next few months will be very important to jump start his ability to get back to living his life on his terms.

• Other – We are actively working to make sure his bills are current and does not start this journey in a deficit. We are also unsure of just how much we will require to assist Paul with travel and accommodation for specialized medical or rehabilitation facilities. There is also the possibility of needed home modifications or caregiver support, even if temporary.

Paul has a $15,000 deductible plus a lot of care that will not be fully covered, and bills that he will need assistance with. We will update GoFundMe with any new major changes or needs. We estimate that he will need at least $25,000 to meet his current requirements.
