Enya's campaign for Brain Tumour Research
Me and my sister Megan are doing the Strabane/Lifford half Marathon in memory of our Dear Friend/non biological sister Michaela who sadly passed away in 2010.
In 2009 at the young age of 17 Michaela was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour, after weeks of being miss-diagnosed repeatedly being told her headaches were down to the stress of exams. Now anyone who new Michaela knew this wasn't true as she was quite the opposite, she was a laid back happy go lucky girl. It was an optician who found what was causing her headaches and immediately referred her to the Hospital. I still have nightmares about that day, all our worlds were turned upside down. Michael went through months of treatment and had operations but unfortunately there was nothing that could save her from this horrible illness. Michaela was her usual upbeat happy self right to the end, no matter how horrible she was feeling and repeatedly told us to "stop blubbering". Sadly Michaela passed away months later, aged just 18. This year is Michaelas 10th anniversary and we know she would want us to turn something bad/sad into something good, this is why we have decided to raise funds for this wonderful cause that can hopefully save people like Michaela some day! She will be laughing at the fact me and Megs are going to try do a half marathon lol
