What is Envy?
Hi! We are the production team of Envy, a short film written and directed by Aoife Hubbard. Envy follows the story of Martha, a socially withdrawn homeless girl, who is overcome by an intense jealousy of her friend's perfect life after a strange man offers her a power which allows her to steal and take over the body of anyone she wants.
With the guidance of the amazing staff at Deakin University, we are creating this film as emerging filmmakers who are eager to showcase their talents on and off set. We are planning to shoot over a period of 5 days in the second week of August.
Synopsis
Martha is homeless, and attends the party of her rich friend Georgie, hoping to sleep there, but is instead rejected. After begrudgingly making her way to a motel, she discovers a strange black box poking up from the ground and brings it to her room. Upon opening it, a sinister looking man appears and pressures Martha to accept his offer of the box’s power - a power that will let her steal and live in Georgie’s body – on the condition that she must return the box in one month.
How much we need to raise
For our project, we are looking to raise $2300 in order to complete the rest of our funds. Our budget will be distributed in exact amounts to efficiently cover 3 main areas: Pre-Production (which we are currently in now), Principal Photography, and Post-Production.
How you'll be helping
Getting these funds will ensure that we are able to go the farthest we possibly can with this film and make it the best it can be. We are so excited to bring months of hard work from script to screen, but it's simply not possible without the help of amazing donors like you.
So what's in it for you?
Well, other than knowing you've helped a talented team of young creators achieve this amazing feat, we have some nice gifts you can get for being able to help us out.
These include:
$10 or more: A thanks in Envy's end credits & a digital copy of the film
$25: Above, a digital frame of the film's storyboard, & a digital poster of the film.
$50: Above, a digital concept art piece, & a digital album of BTS stills.
$100: Above, & the printed title page of the script, signed by the Crew.
$150: Above, a printed poster signed by the Crew, & a personalised thank-you video from the Director.
$300: Above, & a prop or costume item from the set.
$500: Above, & an Executive Producer credit.
We are so immensely grateful for any amount that you can give. Even if you aren't able to donate, sharing this campaign around helps us out more than you might think. We are fully determined to reach our goal and ultimately, your support, big or small, is what will help get us there.

Over the course of the past year, she has honed her skills as an assistant director, writer, editor and HMUA. Now she can’t wait to take the lead and make this project the best it can be!
Andre Toussaint - Producer
Andre is the producer of Envy! He is a 22 year old student at Deakin University who is super eager to be producing his first official film and work alongside an amazing and talented group of individuals. His passion and drive for filmmaking has led him to producing a couple of student flicks. In his time studying at Deakin, he has developed numerous film-related skills and is keen to showcase and build upon these skills during each stage of Envy’s production!
Nicholaus Burkitt - Director of Photography
Nicholaus Burkitt is a budding filmmaker and cinematographer from Melbourne. Experienced in all aspects of film production, having worked on countless projects across narrative works, but mostly in the camera department on films such as Bloody Tradies, A Meal to Share, Love Your Neighbour and Dicktective in Domestic Di(ck)spute. Currently studying Film, Television and Animation at Deakin University, Nick’s love for the craft and cameras makes him excited to be the Director of Photography for Envy and work with this spectacular team!
Dimitri Sariklis - Production Designer
Meet our Production Designer, Dimitri! Dim has a passion for content creation and videography, since he loves to use the wide range of tools at his disposal to get the best final product. From editing to acting, he’s worked on various student-led films and productions, as he really excels at anything that gets him feeling creative and lets him express himself. Dim is excited to expand his horizons now that he’s in his final year of uni, and is hoping that he can use his keen eye to make our sets and actors on Envy look as pretty as they possibly can!
Melanie Counsell - Sound Designer
Melanie, our sound designer, is 21 years old and considers herself an extremely creative individual whose passions include crochet, sewing and baking. Her favourite aspect of film is sound, a production element that she finds very interesting; it is also the department that she is the most excited to gain experience in (aside from a fear of accidentally not recording any audio for the whole film!). After Uni, she is looking forward to working in the fast-paced live TV industry. Melanie is extremely excited to work with the rest of the team on what will be an amazing production.
Leah Margaritis - Editor
Meet our Editor, Leah Margaritis! Passionate about post-production, Leah has worked on numerous student short films, both as an actress and editor. In regard to this project, Leah is most excited to expand her skills through the collaborative process. She plans on assisting as much as possible during pre- production and production phases, before she can show her skill sets during her most important time, post-production.
Leah is excited to bring ‘Envy’ to life and show off her skill sets obtained through her time at Deakin Uni.
Risks and Challenges
We are an emerging group of filmmakers who have learned essential safety practices both independently and with the guidance of highly experienced academic staff. Through the use of a meticulous risk assessment document and constant team communication, we have been able to confidently keep track of any and all challenges that we may face in this production. We will also be keeping in line with all required Victorian COVID-19 restrictions at the time of the shoot.
All in all...
Thank you so much for taking the time to help our project come to life.
See you in the festival run!
