Zion’s Road to Recovery
As many of you may know, Zack adopted a German Shepard puppy 5 years ago, almost to the day. Since Zion’s adoption the two have been nearly inseparable- going to work together, traveling together, hiking together and so much more. Anyone that knows Zack knows that he’d nearly take a bullet for his best friend, who he affectionately refers to as Zi.
Today, while Zack was on his way home from work he received a devastating phone call from Rainey, his long-time girlfriend and the only one who rivals the amount of love he has for Zi. Between tears she frantically described the horrible accident Zi had been in. In his 5 years of life he had never attempted to cross the street they live on, but today, for reasons unknown, he did.
During his attempt he was struck by a vehicle leaving 11 inches of bone on his hind leg completely exposed and a primary artery severed.
Rainey managed to get him into their car by herself (no thanks to less than helpful bystanders) and rush him to an emergency vet nearby. Here Zi was stabilized and transferred to a larger facility in Charlotte more equipped to handle cases of this severity.
Zack and Rainey are anxiously waiting to see what can be done to avoid amputation. At this point, they have been told that it is the cheapest option at $5,000- but they are hoping to avoid it, even if it means taking out a loan and reaching out to friends and family in this time of need.
If anyone has any funds to spare at this time, they will be forever grateful for your generosity. I will post updates and pictures as I receive them.
Thank you,
Harlie
