Help Enushu Taye on her road to recovery.

Donation protected
In January 2023, beloved mother, wife, sister, friend, musician, business woman and community inspiration Enushu Taye was struck down by a sudden and severe brain bleed caused by a condition known as arteriovenous malformation.

Brain AVM is a tangle of blood vessels that connect arteries and veins in the brain, it is often present from birth. In Enushu’s case the rupture resulted in bleeding into the brain.

Some people experience symptoms before rupture, however, Enushu did not. In late January, Enushu was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where the swift actions of staff miraculously saved her life.

Since then Enushu has suffered paralysis, vision and hearing loss and loss of balance; meaning she is now learning to walk again. Enushu’s treasured vocal chords have also been impacted and she is working to recover her beautiful singing voice.

While Enushu is lucky to be alive she faces a long road of recovery and rehabilitation ahead.

Since the incident Enushu has been treated in ICU and neurological wards, and has already undergone two surgeries. A secondary AVM has been detected and doctors are currently assessing her need for further intervention and surgery.

Enushu is facing these immense challenges with her typical good humour and determination.

While Enushu remains in hospital and concentrates on her recovery, her dedicated family are working to address the extensive logistical challenges that will face them once she is released.

Living and working at the family business, The Horn African Cafe, has been a joy for Enushu over the last 16 years. Devastatingly the venue is no longer a suitable place for her to call home. Enushu’s urgent relocation has become a priority.

Enushu is the guiding light of The Horn African Cafe and the very essence of Black Jesus eXperience. The community that has grown around these projects has become her home and family.

She has loved and cherished every moment, pouring her heart and soul into the community she adores.

As Enushu faces a long road ahead, we are reaching out to all those she has touched, connected with and inspired both locally and globally and asking for their support to help ensure that her recovery is as smooth as possible.

All funds raised will be put towards: appropriate accommodation during rehabilitation, physio and occupational therapy (including sensory management and speech pathology), any modifications required to ensure her new home is safe and accommodates her new needs, as well as professional in-home care.

Enushu and her family are looking forward to the time that she can return to her community in full health, until then they would be incredibly grateful for all contributions. As per Enushu’s request all funds will be managed by her husband Peter Harper.
