entoLIVE 2025 - Free invertebrate webinars for all
Donation protected
Understanding our wildlife is pivotal to conserving it, yet many conservationists are unable to access the very science they need to make evidence-based decisions to protect biodiversity. entoLIVE hopes to make invertebrate science more accessible and your donations can help cover the costs of the Zoom account and more.
I have worked in the conservation and environmental education sectors for the past 10+ years, including setting up and managing (as a volunteer) the National Earthworm Recording Scheme and collating records from both naturalists and researchers into a national species occurrence dataset that is publicly open for all to use.
However, my non-academic background means that I sometimes struggle with the technical language and stats presented in scientific research papers and, much more worryingly, am often unable to access these scientific outputs as they are locked behind a paywall. Being able to access relevant scientific articles and interpret them would enable me to do a much better job as national recorder for earthworms, and there are many more naturalists like me out there that contribute to conservation, monitoring and environmental education that would also benefit to science that is more accessible.
With a personal passion for educating people regarding the importance of invertebrates and a mission to make science more accessible to the naturalist community, I came up with the entoLIVE webinar series. Each webinar showcases the research of an invertebrate researcher or specialist, with the speaker presenting their work in an accessible manner. I kept the webinars free to attend so that they are accessible to all.
However, entoLIVE does come with a cost. The website and Zoom account both have costs, and I wanted to recognise the importance of the scientists themselves by offering them a small fee to present their work. Any contributions to this webinar programme are greatly appreciated.
