WHAT'S THE FILM ABOUT?
'Enter Exit Bag': While experiencing the helium induced hallucinations of his failed 'exit bag' suicide attempt, Jack is forced to confront the life he tried to leave behind. He is also left with a tragically comical high pitched voice.
WHY DO YOU WANT TO TELL THIS STORY?
The film explores the subjects of mental health, anxiety, toxic masculinity, and specifically suicide, which is the leading cause of death amongst young Australians. We believe wholeheartedly that these things, which have personally affected us in one way or another, would be served well with an empathetic and honest film in the public zeitgeist. Our mission to tell a story that is deeply personal, hopeful, creative, and entertaining enough to be worth remembering.
"Our story aims to use shock horror and dark comedy to destigmatise the conversation around mental health by making you cringe, laugh, and hopefully think a little too." - Calvin Sim, the director
The visual style is heavily influenced by the innovative approaches of highly acclaimed recent films such as Aftersun, I Saw the TV Glow, and Beau is Afraid. We wish to inspire other creatives within our community how these films have inspired us, to be daring creatively, and to remember that "the most personal is the most creative" -Martin Scorsese.
WHAT ARE THE DONATIONS BEING USED FOR?
Short films don't make money ... and we want to make a short film ... It would mean the ABSOLUTE WORLD to us if anyone wanted to donate anything they can muster to support our project, and in doing so, supporting the independent Australian filmmaking community. This short film will also be used to campaign through the festival circuit for a feature film of the same story and concept.
WHO IS MAKING THE FILM?
The crew have all been in active collaboration with each other since first meeting at Griffith Film School, graduating class of 2019. Their most recent project is the short film 'Co-Stars', which premiered in late 2024 at the renowned Brisbane International Film Festival. BIFF also screened this year's Best Picture Oscar winner, Anora, along with numerous other Oscar winners & nominees.
