Help Us Secure Legal Rights for Our Twins
As we prepare to welcome our twins, we are also navigating an important legal step to make sure our family is fully protected.
Because our babies are donor-conceived through a private cryobank, the State of Kansas requires us to complete a second-parent adoption so Kai can be legally recognized as their parent. Even though we are married and the donor’s rights are fully terminated, we must still petition the court for Kai to be established as the legal second parent.
In Sedgwick County, this process includes filing a court petition, completing background checks, a home study, and appearing before a judge to finalize the adoption.
The total cost for the legal process is about $4,200. Thankfully, we received a discount through Ricquel’s workplace and our attorney is offering a flat service fee with no retainer required.
We’re starting this fundraiser to help cover these legal expenses so we can ensure both parents have full legal rights and protections for our twins from the very beginning.
Any support—whether donating or sharing—means so much to our growing family.
