For just over ten years, Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue has been dedicated to protecting, rehabilitating, and rehoming abandoned and abused dogs in Bulgaria. What began as series of small ad-hoc acts of kindness gradually grew into a trusted UK Registered Charity.

Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue has transformed the lives of countless animals who had no other form of support and would likely have struggled to survive without the intervention of the Santerpaws Team.

Throughout the last decade, Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue has worked tirelessly to:

• Rescue abandoned, abused, and injured dogs (and some cats, horses and donkeys)

• Provide essential veterinary care, food, shelter, and rehabilitation

• Neuter dogs (and cats) to reduce unwanted litters of puppies (kittens) to lessen the need for rescue at source

• Prepare and safely transport dogs to loving homes across the UK (adopted dogs are transported)

• Offer lifelong support to adopters with back up support for all homed dogs

• Provide safety and security with love and individual attention, ensuring good standards of care for those dogs who remain in our sanctuary

A Once in a Lifetime Opportunity

For the last decade Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue has operated from a Shelter, built by the rescue with public donations, on rented land. Santerpaws Bulgarian Recue has gradually enlarged the kennelling space and made huge improvements to the dog accommodation at the Shelter, ensuring that resident dogs receive the best possible standard of care, which is more than compliant with legislation requirements.

Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue has made the very best of the available space, but renting has always come with uncertainty; significantly rising rental costs have created endless worry, limited control over building improvements can be frustrating, and the constant fear that any day Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue could be asked to vacate and lose the one safe place for the dogs dependent on the Shelter for survival.

Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue now has a unique opportunity to change that future forever…

Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue finally has the opportunity to purchase outright the land that the Shelter is built on.

Owning the Shelter would mean:

• Long term security for all dogs in our care

• Ability to access formal grant funding; making the Charity more independently financially secure in the longer term (rental prohibits this option currently)

• Improved short term financial sustainability, without rental costs meeting food and medical bills will be more sustainable and this will allow for planning and delivering welfare improvements

• An improved quality of life in a dedicated area of the Sanctuary for dogs who cannot be rehomed due to age, illness, disability or temperament. Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue firmly believes every dog has the right to home comforts as well as safety.

• Investment in improvements without fear of financial loss

This is a pivotal moment in the history of Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue and one that will shape the future of every dog who comes into care at the Shelter.

Our Goal: £50,000

To secure the purchase of the land the Shelter is built on, Santerpaws Bulgarian Rescue must raise £50,000 to buy the land and fence this in securely, allowing dogs in the Shelter increased space to roam and play safely.

For a small Charity rescue organisation, with no access to government funding, this represents an enormous challenge.
