My name is Jim Savo. I have Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and I’m looking to raise funds to add railings to my wheelchair ramp. I need eight more feet of railing on each side so I can go up and down my ramp safely. Towards the bottom of my ramp, I keep falling off and my wheelchair, which is over 300 pounds, so it’s a real task to get it upright on the ramp when it falls off. Each 8-foot section of railing costs about $700 each.

Unfortunately, insurance doesn’t cover wheelchair ramps or accessories to the wheelchair ramp like railings, so it’s an out-of-pocket expense for me. It’s really hard for me to afford outdoor accessibility devices like wheelchair ramps, etc. on a social security budget. Medicaid and Medicare only cover accessibility in the home, not outside the home. I need help to make outside my home more accessible and safe for me.
