Help Ensure Our Moms Final Chapter is Filled with Love

My name is Shawn, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your help for our mom, Judy. She’s been the heartbeat of our family—a fierce, loving woman whose life has been a testament to resilience and care. As the eldest daughter of Fred, a sheet metal worker, and Laura, an elementary school teacher, Judy grew up with a deep appreciation for creativity. She pursued her passion for art at the University of San Diego. It was there, in California, she met my dad, a Navy EOD specialist, and soon became a military wife, traveling the world with him while raising me and my younger sister with unwavering devotion. She never missed a soccer game or swim meet, cheering us on with a smile that lit up any room.

When my parents divorced and as our lives became more turbulent and our sense of future unclear my mother did everything in her power to shield us from the hardships that were to come. Our Mom took on every job she could—waiting tables, housekeeping, cashier—working tirelessly to keep us fed, clothed, and loved, no matter how hard it got. Her strength carried us through.

Years later, when I had a daughter of my own, Mom dropped everything to care for her while I returned to work. She taught my daughter to play, to laugh, and shared all of her love and wisdom. Those years were magical, filled with art projects and stories, a bond that my daughter will cherish for the rest of her life.

Now, Mom faces a different battle. She’s been diagnosed with Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, hepatic encephalopathy, and cirrhosis, conditions that have stolen her clarity and left her confused, hallucinating, and struggling to communicate.

Recently, her health has declined sharply,—slurred speech, unable to use the phone or text for check-ins with her family, her mobility is now non existent—while living in a facility where neglect has become a heartbreaking reality. Days in the same clothing, missed care, multiple falls and delayed medical attention have left her vulnerable, and I can’t bear the thought of her last moments being defined by this.

We want to bring Mom home to Albuquerque, where her grandchildren and family live, and we hope to be able to move her into a small residential memory care home—a place that will love her as fiercely as she loved us. A home with specialized care that can give her the dignity and comfort she deserves, surrounded by the art she adores and the family who adores her. But the cost—around $6,000 a month, has created an obstacle we can’t find away around on our own.

That’s where we need your help.
With your donations we hope to bridge the financial gap that her reliance on medicaid and lack of private funding has created leaving us very few if any decent care home options. Your donations can help ensure she transitions safely and lives her final chapter with the love she’s always given. Every dollar brings her closer to a home that honors her legacy.

Please donate, share this with your networks, and help us give our Mom the ending she deserves—no more neglect, just love.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

With love,
Shawn, Joey, Kelly, Simon, Emma & Dylan
