I am Janet Rodriguez & I am writing for my husband. After having had two cancer diagnosis this 74 year old retired mailman has survived both with Chemo and a stem cell transplant. The treatment however has had its negative effects reaping havoc on his body. He is left with autoimmune diseases that have required more treatment and ongoing meds. As a result, now He is a type 1 diabetic, has Rheumatoid arthritis, heart problems, & a non working pancreas. The pancreas no longer functions so he has to take Creon before every meal to digest his food. Without it he would die. The post office has recently decided that they no longer want to sustain their retirees so they changed the entire medical benefits. They force all their retirees go on Medicare part D for their prescriptions. In doing so we are required to pay high co-pays for the 5 tier 2 specialty drugs this retired mailman must take daily. Our health insurance with the Post Office is $840 a month and our co-pays for the five tier 2 meds (30 day supply)is $105 each not including insulin and sensors. Along with the specialty drugs Enbrel injections, Entresto for the heart, Xiidra for his eyes, Jardiance for the heart and Creon to digest his food. He cannot live without it. He also takes Methatrexate for the rheumatoid arthritis. We were able to get some help from the drug manufacturers but because the Post Office is forcing us on Medicare part D for our meds. By doing this we no longer qualify for help from the manufacturers. Sadly, we can no longer afford the Specialty drugs needed for this retired mailman’s prescriptions. The cost of our tier 2 Co-pays each month is $525. The five tier 2 prescriptions are not the only prescriptions he takes. They are the most expensive ones. Since the Post Office changed our prescription plan they raised
Our Co-pays beyond our retirement Social Security retirement checks. Carlos needs these medicine and injections to slow down the deterioration of his bones.
We are hoping that we can raise $25000 to cover the co-pays for the next 5 years of treatment with the Specialty drugs going forward. Perhaps mail carriers & others throughout the country can help us raise this desperately needed ongoing treatment. One of the most important drug he takes is Creon. Carlos cannot live without it. It digests his food for him. Please help.
