Since the fall of 2023, my older brother Alex has been fighting Diffused Large B Cell Lymphoma, a type of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.
Prior to his own cancer journey he was the primary caregiver for our mother, Kate, who has breast cancer. Through caring for mom he made relationships with her doctors and care staff. Because of these relationship he was able to start treatment quickly. Treatments first started at Martha Jefferson Cancer Center. Next he was sent to the National Institute of Health (NIH) and continued treatment at Emily Couric Cancer Center at UVA. We are grateful for the care and compassion of his mediacl team.
Through every challenge, he faced it with strength, grace, faith in God and with unwavering determination. However, after a long and courageous battle and exhausting all treatment options, Alex's journey is coming to an end.
At 40 years old and being in peak health, he did not think about savings or even life insurance. To ensure that all of Alex's end of life wishes are met asking for donations. As Alex put it best, "I am not a person who does well at asking for help or favors but that is what I’m here asking for from you all. I do not want to be a burden to my family, even if it is for a short time. I truly believe no matter how this turns out that I will have what I need and that soon this will just be part of my story. I am truly thankful to all of you, to my family, to my friends and, to me clients that I’ve told, who have all offered the world to help me. It means more than I could ever put into words how much you all mean to me. Thank you."
