Belinda and Benjamin are a young couple in Ghana who have just had their first baby. Benjamin is a fisherman who recently risked his life to save someone who was drowning in the waters off Accra. They are very poor. Belinda has been staying with her mother for the birth and the care of the little boy afterward. The doctors told her that the baby was seriously ill and needed an operation. They managed to raise the funds for the operation and the child is home with mother and grandmother Their problems continue, however. They do not have the money for the baby's needs, including even food. The mother does not want to be dependent on charity. She wants to become a day merchant, buying goods and selling them for a profit in the local marketplace, but she needs some small funds to get started. Ideally they want to return to Accra so that mother and the child can be reunited with the baby's father, but even that takes more money than they have right now. Even small contributions can help to get this little family started on a path of independence together.
