Who are we?
We are Ensemble Musica Lucis, a Montréal-based early music ensemble. We love bringing historical music to life and sharing repertoire that audiences may rarely have the opportunity to hear.
Our mission is to present innovative programs of early music while creating paid professional opportunities for emerging singers and period instrumentalists. We perform as a collaborative chamber ensemble, bringing together young musicians who are passionate and excited to share this music with new audiences.
What are we raising funds for?
Body & Spirit | Corps et esprit, is a two-concert series exploring birth, mortality, and transcendence through seventeenth-century music.
Our first concert, The Birth of Light | La naissance de la lumière, brings together Charpentier's Pastorale sur la Naissance de notre sauveur Jésus-Christ, traditional French carols, and rarely performed sacred music preserved in the archives of the Ursuline monastery of Québec.
Our second concert, Body of Light | Corps de lumière, centres on Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri. For this performance, we'll be joined by Montréal visual artist Daniel Crawford, who will create a new painting live in response to the music as it unfolds.
Together, the two concerts will bring audiences on a journey from birth and embodiment through mortality and transformation.
Why are we excited about this project?
We love performing early music together!
This season marks a new stage for Ensemble Musica Lucis. We're taking on larger repertoire, rediscovering music connected to Québec's own history, and exploring what can happen when historical performance meets contemporary artistic creation.
We're also continuing something that has been important to Musica Lucis from the beginning: creating opportunities for emerging musicians to perform professionally, collaborate with one another, and gain experience in Montréal's thriving early music community.
And most importantly, we want to share this music with you.
Why does your donation matter?
Producing professional concerts is expensive. Your donation will help us pay our musicians and collaborating artists, rent our performance venue and organ, cover production and promotional expenses, and keep our concerts affordable for audiences.
We have applied for public grant funding, but grants do not necessarily cover the full cost of producing a project. Private donations are an important part of helping us make these concerts possible while paying our artists fairly.
We're raising $1,500, and contributions of any size make a difference. Whether you give $1, $10, $25, $50, or more, you're helping us create professional opportunities for emerging artists and bring rarely heard music to Montréal audiences.
We also believe that cost shouldn't prevent someone from experiencing live music. Our concerts include a pay-what-you-can ticket option, and your support helps us keep that possible.

When you donate, you're not simply helping us put on two concerts. You're helping emerging musicians build professional experience, helping us bring music from Québec's past back into performance, and helping make live early music accessible to more people.
Donor perks
Donate any amount and you will have access to full performances of both concerts!
If you're unable to donate, sharing this campaign is also a wonderful way to support us. Every share helps introduce Ensemble Musica Lucis and this music to someone new.
Thank you! We can't wait to share this music with you.
