Help Support Kendra After the Loss of Her Son, Enrique

This week, our family faced an unimaginable tragedy. My sister, Kendra Ballard, lost her precious baby boy, Enrique Javier Perdomo, at just 4 years old. Earlier this week, Enrique was declared brain dead after suffering a catastrophic stroke. On Friday, he received an Honor Walk at Children’s Mercy, where his incredible gift of life brought hope to others—his heart was donated to a one-year-old boy in desperate need of a transplant, and his kidneys were given to a woman who will now have more time with her family.

Enrique was Kendra’s sunshine. Despite the challenges of his illness, he lived with joy, laughter, and music. To be by his side through countless hospital stays, Kendra had to quit her job. She has been a single mother caring for Enrique while also raising his brother and sister. With the devastating loss of our mother just four months ago, and now the loss of her sweet boy, Kendra is walking through heartbreak no parent should ever have to endure.

In this time of grief and transition, we are asking for support from family, friends, and our community. Kendra’s only income was the disability support Enrique received, which has now ended. She urgently needs help covering the celebration of life for Enrique, as well as basic living expenses for her and her two other children until she can regain stability.

“There’s a one-year-old boy who desperately needs a heart transplant, and my baby is a perfect match. Although my baby is gone, he’s saving someone else’s life. I’m devastated but knowing that his heart will continue to beat for another little boy makes me feel like he’s still here with me. I hope one day I’ll get to meet that little boy so that I can hear my son’s heartbeat again. Enrique, mi amor, I love you so much. I’m going to miss you so much! My life won’t be the same, and neither will I.”
