Enrichment Opportunities for Ossining UFSD
In honor of Giving Tuesday (#givingtuesday) for the second year in a row, the Ossining ACTION Committee and PTA have started a fundraiser on behalf of the the Ossining Union Free School District (OUFSD). This year all funds raised will go towards supporting students social skills through creative play during recess and outdoor time along with supporting innovative teaching practices.
Ossining School Superintendent Ray Sanchez said: “We as a district provide our children the best education and classroom experience – Giving Tuesday is to provide the extras. Giving to support their education and growth is a vote of confidence in our young people. It is telling them that we believe in them, and we know they will go far. I want to thank all of our donors on behalf of all the children in the Ossining School District.”
Last year, Giving Tuesday raised $4,065. The dollars raised were donated to the Ossining ACTION Committee via the PTA and used to support all the schools. Specifically, purchased were drones for Ossining High School, battle ropes for exercise at Anne M. Dorner Middle School, microscopes to Roosevelt Elementary School, stop motion equipment to be used with Jacob Burns partnership for Claremont Elementary School, scooters to Brookside Elementary School and playhouses to Park Early Childhood Center.
Parent Organizer Jess Vecchiarelli said: “Many of us are fortunate to be able to give. This holiday season rather than buying our kids more gifts – let’s contribute to the schools that do so much and benefit our children’s whole being. Learning in a fun environment is priceless. Let’s all dig into our pockets, give whatever amount we can, and make their Ossining experience even richer.”
