Have you ever been down on your luck? Has life thrown you an unexpected curve ball? Has your car ever broke down and you’re already living pay check to pay check? We have all been there at one point in our lives. In most cases we have to ask for help.
Suzie is most likely the person you talk to in times such as these. Suzie is the director of New Directions Ministry. New Directions Ministry is a program to help homeless or families in need, classes to learn life skills / car maintenance. Maybe you just need help obtaining a birth certificate or social security card or any form of identification. She is very dedicated to her work. Helping thousands of others, always putting everyone else before herself. Most of us clock out at the end of the day and leave work at work the end of a long day. Not Suzie, there is always more to be done. Whether it’s a friend needing a ride to work or to the grocery store, she is always lending a hand.
Unfortunately bad things happen to good people. In August of 2020 Suzie’s boyfriend Max became sick only to find out he had stage 3 pancreatic cancer. Without hesitation she jumped in to care for him like she would anyone else. After a long hard road and hardship January 2021 Max went into remission. With Max in a better place she could focus on work again until November 2023 she began to feel excruciating pain in her abdomen. The kind of pain that demands all your attention and energy just to make it through the day. Never putting herself first She found she had no other choice but to take a leave of absence from work. She began working with her doctor running many tests and blood work to make sense of this sudden pain she was experiencing. Now after months of waiting, many late night E.R trips and restless days in bed, not leaving her home due to the uncomfortable pain, February Suzie received the results she had been waiting for. News that no one wants to hear. Stage 1 endometrial carcinoma cancer. In March she was able to have surgery and is still recovering from the procedure.
Bad things happen to good people. Meanwhile through all the trials and tribulations she still has a drive to help people. But the real truth is Suzie actually needs help. Bills stacking up due to being out of work so long, not able to work until cleared by her physician. Exhausting all resources as she does for so many others on a daily basis, she found no help! Suzie is now getting ready to lose her home. It’s hard enough to keep up pay check to pay check for most people, let alone for months of sickness and no option but to take care of herself first in order to be able to continue to take care of others. She has applied for disability but like anything, these things take time. It does not happen overnight.
I’ve never met anyone so selfless. Someone who has inspired me in many ways to put myself in someone else’s shoes. We all have a Suzie in our lives that we could count on and now it’s time instead of Suzie helping us we have the opportunity to give it back and help her. Help Suzie have a stress free recovery so she can heal and be her bast self. Funds will go towards living experiences , rent.
