This page was created in support of Dawson Sterling, from Va. Beach, Va. His medical issues began in 2011 when he was diagnosed with colon cancer. Complications following surgery led to a serious brush with death, an additional surgery, a lengthy hospital stay and extended recovery.
On Sept. 10, 2014, Dawson suffered a minor heart attack. Doctors discovered a 90% blockage in three main arteries and he was given one option, a triple bypass. On Sept.15, Dawson contracted a staph infection that has delayed the surgery for 3 weeks. The following day, doctors discovered he still has problems with his colon and will need to undergo another colonoscopy which will further delay his surgeries/him being discharged from hospital. He now faces 6-8 more weeks in the hospital.
Dawson was born and raised in Va. Beach, a surfer and local fisherman who graduated from First Colonial in '74. His family was well known and respected in the oceanfront hotel industry, as owners of the Princess Anne Inn. His father was instrumental in the continued development of Va. Beach.
Dawson married Susan Melton, of Newport News and was her greatest support during several breast cancer surgeries. Together, they have raised three children. Both Dawson and Susan were avid supporters of W.T. Cooke Elementary and first on the list to volunteer for school functions. They now live with their daughter, Katie, to help raise and love their precious grandson, Asher.
Ongoing medical bills and continued setbacks have caused financial hardship for Dawson and his family. Please find it in your heat to give what you can, so that his medical bills will be lessened and he can focus on recovery.
My name is Dana COLE Burlage and Dawson's daughter, Katie, is my best friend. My father, Doug Burlage, is a life long friend of the Sterling family as they were in the hotel industry together. Dawson has been a true friend to my father and countless others in Va. Beach, just as Katie has been to me. I want to help them in this time of need, as I know they would, undoubtedly, do the same for you or I.
I kindly ask that you share this post on your facebook pages in hopes that donations will meet this meager goal.
