Justin's Journey
Donation protected
On Tuesday January 9th our world was shaken when we got a call that Justin was enroute to University of Colorado - Ancshutz in Aurora, Colorado with significant injuries following a pedestrian vs car accident. He had gotten in a rear-end motor vehicle accident at an intersection, and while waiting for police to arrive to take his information, he was standing outside his vehicle looking in his trunk and was hit from behind by another vehicle. He sustained compound fractures from the waist down with complete loss of blood supply to the left leg, and significant vascular and bone injuries to both legs. He entered emergency surgery which lasted through the night to stabilize the vasculature in his legs. Miracles happen, and thanks to an amazing medical team he was able to regain feeling in his left leg. The surgical team has stated many times that Justin "got lucky"...which is a hard thing to swallow given the current circumstances, but we understand this could have been so much worse. His pelvis and spinal cord were missed by mere inches. Another surgery today has stabilized his right leg more completely. The status of saving the left leg remains unknown but we are remaining optimistic with the medical care he has received thus far. Currently, the next steps are unknown but Justin is looking at 3-4 more surgeries in the next several weeks, and a several week hospital stay before transitioning to a rehabilitation center for a long road ahead. Those of you who know Justin know what a happy, thoughtful, and fun loving person he is. This is a long journey ahead with life altering effects and while we don't know what the future holds, we are taking this one day at a time. We thank you all for your support from near and far.
