Hello Friends! Our son Luke is a college student at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado. He is also a swimmer, golfer, boyfriend, grandson, amazing brother and outstanding son.

Over the last few months he developed some back pain. The back pain worked its way into his leg and core. He sought medical attention for the increasing pain suspecting a lower back injury, possible hernia or other core body injury. After several weeks of imaging and physical therapy he had an MRI done. The images were highly concerning and revealed bone lesions and disc degeneration. Lab work followed along with a CT scan. Labs showed additional concerning information and he was admitted to Children’s Hospital in Aurora last week. Indications are that he is dealing with Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL). Needless to say he and we are in for a long and difficult journey.

It is always awkward to ask for a hand up. Pride must give way to necessity so here we go!

We are lucky to be surrounded by amazing family, friends and coworkers. All of whom are expressing an interest to help if they only knew how. While providing meals and such is a wonderful thing, at this point it is not completely practical as we are living a semi nomadic lifestyle splitting our time between our home in Estes and Luke’s temporary “home” at Children’s. I’m afraid meals would go to waste.

As unexciting and cold as it sounds, $ would really be the most effective means to help. While we are both working as much as we can and have good health insurance to mitigate some of the medical expenses that are and will continue to pile up, it would be incredibly helpful to establish another safety net to offset everyday expenses. Meals on the go, gas, comfort items for Luke, a hotel room here and there when days become long and energy is gone, etc. This would help to shield our normal income and keep the family financial train on the rails.

If it is a burden or creates ANY hardship for you please just send your positive energy, thoughts and/or prayers Luke’s way. If however you are able and inclined to provide a little support we would be tremendously grateful

I set the goal high, hoping that once we complete this journey there might be dollars left that will go directly to Children’s Hospital or a solid foundation that works with Pediatric Cancer research, treatment and patient/family support.
