Hi! I am one of the pelvic health therapists here at The University of Kansas Health Systems, St. Francis Campus. I am working towards starting a pelvic health program in the hospital on the acute care side and part of that program will include providing squatty potties for each postpartum room on the delivery floor. There are 11 postpartum rooms, and I am raising funds to supply 13 squatty potties. Ordering 2 extra to have in storage for future needs. Squatty potties help improve the anorectal angle which eases straining and pressure on the pelvic floor muscles. Straining can worsen hemorrhoids and perineal pain which are all common after a delivery. The squatting position also encourages more complete bowel emptying, which can help prevent constipation and lessen the need for repeated straining. The pelvic floor muscles stretch significantly during a vaginal delivery and using a squatty potty during defecations can support healing and reduce pelvic floor tension.
