GUESS WHAT?!
Our friend Stephanie Hopson is SWIMMING THE ENGLISH CHANNEL!
(For serious.)
Stephanie has been working towards this goal for more than two years…training all over the country for this 21+ mile endeavor.
Yeah, you read that right… MORE THAN TWENTY ONE MILES.
(Most people can’t even walk 21 miles.)
Plus, it’s possible it could be up to 28 miles (TWENTY EIGHT MILES) since you don't swim the English Channel in a straight line, apparently. #science
That said, if ANYONE can swim the English Channel successfully, it’s Stephanie Hopson.
There isn’t a doubt in our collective minds that she’s going to make this incredible journey [BECAUSE SHE WILL]. Stephanie is GOING to get this done.
And we want to help make her dream a reality…
Only this is the thing: it’s super expensive to swim the English Channel.
Stephanie has already spent thousands (upon thousands) training. Said training has taken her to NYC, Santa Barbara, Lake Tahoe, Chattanooga, Portland, all over the state of Arizona…and then back to NYC again. And now, with the English Channel swim approaching, it’s going to cost our swimmer friend an additional $8,500. There are just so many factors to consider: the plane tickets, the lodging, the crew, the boat, the pilot. (It’s *so* intense swimming the English Channel that the boat captain is called a PILOT, you guys.)
Stephanie would kill us if she knew we started this thing, but we love her and we don’t want her to go broke pursuing her dream.
NO ONE SHOULD GO BROKE PURSUING THEIR DREAM!
[NOTE: We’re writing this as we watch the democratic convention, so we’re super inspired.]
Please donate whatever you can…
(She’ll appreciate it more than you can possibly imagine.)
Oh! A few more details:
Her actual swim will happen between August 9th and August 16th. Meaning, that’s her reserved window. It’s totally weather dependent.
Time-wise she thinks it will take her anywhere from 16-24 hours to complete her swim. Again, it depends on the weather. (Like, the current and the wind and stuff. #science #PartTwo)
There will be a group of people on the boat tweeting updates from Stephanie’s Twitter account: @SKMHop! Please follow her! Also, we’ll be using #EnglishChannel as a hashtag BECAUSE IT’S TOO COOL NOT TO.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for caring.
