A Nurse in Need
Hi, my name is Staci, and I am fundraising for Lisa Roberts. She is more than just a coworker, she is a friend. She is not a person to ask for help(like most nurses), but help is what she needs. For so many years, Lisa devoted her life to taking care of the sickest patients in the pediatric ICU at our children's hospital. She is THE nurse you would want if your child was gravely ill.
Sadly, five years ago her life was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 terminal breast cancer. Lisa immediately started a treatment regimen, not a cure but treatment. All the while, she continued to work full time.
Over the years, Lisa and her ex-husband Jack, opened their home and hearts as foster parents. Their children, Jacob and Jessica, were two of these foster children that they ultimately adopted as their own. Even in divorce, Jack promised to care for Lisa until the end. He even quit his job to take care of the kids and is now the sole caretaker for Lisa.
A few weeks ago, Lisa became too ill to work. Her blood and platelet counts were critically low, and she was too weak to even get out of her hospital bed. She also started running a fever, and so her doctors decided it was time for a bone marrow biopsy. This showed that the cancer, which had already spread, was now in her bone marrow. Lisa has chosen to start chemotherapy treatments. She is not ready to give up on this life and continues to courageously fight for more time with her family and friends.
All donations will go directly to Lisa to help with her medical expenses (those that she has already accrued and those that she will now incur), as well as help with her loss of employment. Lisa will be unable to work indefinitely and is the sole source of her household income.
Thank you in advance for your kind help.
