Endurance 24 Award

District 215 Endurance 24 Scholarship Award

Our names are Christopher Russo and Aaron Altenburg and we are teachers at Thornton Fractional North High School (District 215) in Calumet City, Illinois.  We have been in the district for a combined 30 years in multiple capacities as teachers, coaches and sponsors.  During this unprecedented school year we began thinking about what we could do to better serve our students and community.   We wanted to find a way to reward students that have turned high school careers and, in some cases, their lives around and overcome the obstacles that once stood in their way.  We would like to reward some of the most deserving student(s) that fit that criteria with a scholarship that will help them offset some of the costs associated with college, trade school or the military.  This money will help propel this student(s) in moving on from Thornton Fractional North and help them continue their successful journey.

We realize that just asking for money is not sufficient enough, so we added a little challenge to help motivate people to give.  The Endurance 24 Award has a double meaning. Not only does it speak to the challenges that many of our students have to endure throughout their lives, but it also speaks to the challenge that we will attempt on May 7th and 8th.  Partially inspired by a fundraiser challenge by a mentor, friend and fellow ultra runner of  Christopher's,  Dave Curtin (School District 228 Dean of Students), we have decided to take on an extreme run of our own.  Starting in Northwest Indiana we will complete a 4 mile run every 4 hours for 24 hours.  The route will take us through many parts of District 215 communities with stops at host homes along the way.  Our journey will culminate on the Thornton Fractional North High School track where we will complete our final mile of the challenge.

Please consider donating to this cause.  In a time of uncertainty our young people need a win.  Let's work together to help someone earn that win.  Whether it is a set amount or sponsoring us by the mile, whatever you can afford and are willing to donate will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your support.   May you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy during these uncertain times.
