End-of-Life Support for Jeannie Higgerson
Donation protected
*** I am editing this in hopes I can raise more money for another trip I will need to take to California the end of July; to clean out her storage unit, sell her car, and complete her wishes to have her ashes spread off the coast of Santa Barbara. This trip will cost me about $1,000 by the time I buy a plane ticket, rent a car, and lodging. Any help you can give is Appreciated . Thank you!
My name is Deanna Higgerson, and I am the daughter of Jeannie Higgerson.
On Sunday, April 27th; my mom collapsed in a parking lot after suffering a stroke. She was immediately taken to the hospital where measures were taken to sustain her life. During treatment she became unresponsive; and then was transported to Loma Linda Medical Center where she is on life support and not expected to survive off life support; which she did not want.
On Thursday, May 1; I will be flying to California to grant her wishes to be removed from life support and be with her while she passes, peacefully.
A little about my mom Jeannie; she was a fireball if you knew her. She grew up in Billerica, Massachusetts, eventually moved to Virginia, and then moved to California about 1981. During 91-93ish, she completed her bachelors degree as a nurse while working and taking care of my brother, James (now deceased) and myself. Mom worked at many hospitals in places like Santa Barbara, Barstow, Arizona, Kansas City, etc. She enjoyed being a travel nurse and has met many friends along the way. She loved the beach, the color purple, dolphins, good food,
chocolate, iced tea and she had a contagious laugh.
In 2016 my brother James passed away from a heart attack which absolutely devastated her. On April 4th of this year, Michelle, my brothers widow, also passed away suddenly. Our family has suffered tremendous loss and it’s so hard to believe it’s pretty much just me now picking up the pieces and honoring her final wishes.
Unfortunately; my mom was living in her car at the time she had the stroke on Sunday. She is insolvent and has no estate. Which means it’s up to me to make sure not only her wishes are granted from her advance directive, but also to make arrangements for her cremation and everything else that comes along with what you have to do when your parent passes.
My mother will be leaving behind myself- 44 (29ish?), her grandson Dylan- 18 (son of James and Michelle, both deceased), he grandson Josias - 11 (my son), and an older sister in NC.
I am a single mother myself and don’t have all the funds right now of doing everything that needs to be done. Travel expenses I will incur to be there when she passes, cremation, and doing all the things I can to tie-up lose ends before I have to fly back home on Saturday.
Any little bit helps and I appreciate any generosity you can offer. Please also share to help notify anyone that may have known my mother as I don't have access to all of her contacts just yet, but hope to when I get to California on Thursday.
I would love for anyone to post their favorite memory of her here I know she had friends all over the country and I would love to know what your favorite memory with her is.
