Hello Everyone!
This gofundme account has been set up to cover the cost of spinal disc surgery for my sister, Marjie Remole. Let's END HER PAIN together!
Many of you are familiar with her story but, for those of you who aren't, let me share it with you. Let's start at the beginning...
March 12, 2002 - During the birth of my first nephew, Ethan, Marjie suffered a broken coccyx (tailbone). Doctors informed her that there was no treatment for a broken tailbone and the break would re-fuse on it's own within a year. Marjie pushed through daily pain to care for her young daughter and newborn son.
2003 - Seventeen months after her injury, Marjie gave birth to her second son, Gavin. With three small children to care for, she was desperate to find relief from the constant pain. Doctors decided to start a series of cortisone injections. The first few injections offered a few weeks of relief but subsequent injections quickly lost effect. Over the coarse of a few years, she received 15 cortisone injections. The pain still continued.
2005 - Doctors finally took the initiative to run some tests and discovered that there were actually two pieces of bone broken off the end of her spine. These pieces would move each time she sat down or stood up, causing intense pain. It was determined that the best thing to do was go in and remove the loose pieces. Surgery was performed and the pieces were removed. After surgery, Marjie felt as though she wasn't healing properly. Doctors continued to tell her that everthing would be fine and to just relax while the wound healed.
After 6 weeks of pain so intense all she could do was lay face down on the bed, doctors finally checked the incision site. They discovered that the wrong sutures were used which caused a severe infection. The site had to be reopened to remove the sutures and infected tissue. The site eventually healed but her pain continued.
2006 - On the way home from Thanksgiving dinner with family, Marjie suddenly experienced extreme pain and tingling in her neck and shoulder. Scared that it may be her heart, they drove straight to the hospital. Initial tests showed that her heart was healthy. Further testing revealed that the surgery on her tailbone caused her spine to shift and blow out a disc. This allows two vertebra to rub together which pinches a nerve, causing tingling and loss of feeling in her neck, arms, fingers and toes. The official "diagnosis" came back as fibromyalgia.
2007 - Without the funds to undergo spinal surgery, Marjie opted to go to a pain management specialist.
2014 - After 12 years of moderately controlled pain and discomfort, the pain management specialists finally told her that they could no longer help her.
I have watched my sister suffer for 13 years. In spite of her constant pain, she is one of the most genuinly caring people I know. If someone is in need, she is always willing to offer her support in whatever capacity needed. She does not wallow in self pity or cry about her pain but rather chooses to live a life full of love. She pours herself into her family, her friends, homeschooling her boys and so much more.
**This surgery will essentially replace the blown disc and give her spine the support it needs to relieve the pinched nerve and, hopefully, END HER PAIN.
I look forward to the day Marjie can wake up and go to bed without feeling horrible pain in between. YOU can help make that happen.
THANK YOU in advance for taking a moment to consider how you can help. No amount is too small. Any donations raised above the cost of surgery will go toward covering meals and other expenses during her recovery.
