End the Suffering of Factory Farmed Animals Globally!
Hello!
My name is Poppy, age 12, and I’m raising money for Compassion in World Farming International, and any donation will help make an impact.
Over two months (5th September to 5th November) I'm going to run, cycle and swim 117 miles - the distance from my home to Hyde Park in London.
Why?
I love animals. I can't bare to think that more than 90% of livestock across the planet are factory farmed, living in unimaginably cruel conditions.
Over 75 billion animals are farmed for food worldwide every year. Animals like battery chickens and young calves are living in "crates" (cages) that are so small that they can't turn around and are shipped across seas globally.
Many people think that, because these animals are a huge part of their diet, they don't matter and can't feel pain. Pain that most of us can't possibly imagine.
Scientists have shown that cows are sentient and sensitive beings, capable of experiencing many emotions (joy, excitement, fear) and have individual personalities, similar to humans. They even have best friends!
Would you treat your friend like this?
As the Compassion In World Farming website says, "As you read this, billions of farmed animals worldwide are suffering in factory farms, deprived of everything that makes life worth living, and our broken food system continues to devastate the planet. Ending this needless suffering is our only hope to protect our future."
Just think of what will happen if we don't.
As well as the effect on the animals welfare, factory farming also gives a massive contribution to climate change. This happens because of huge quantities of green house gas emissions, specifically methane, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide. So not only does it affect the animals' health, but the whole planet's too.
But all of this can be changed...
Compassion in World Farming is a charity that fights for the freedom, respect and rights of factory farmed animals. They have "achieved a ban on battery cages for hens in the egg industry, veal crates and sow, or mother pig, stalls across Europe" ; they passed a bill banning live exports from Great Britain; and have been relentlessly campaigning for over 55 years.
So, with your donation, you can help end the suffering of billions of animals globally and create a healthier planet. Please donate if you can.
