The children at the leprosy Hospital in Ekpene Obom, Akwa Ibom & Molai Borno State, Nigeria (colonies) do not have leprosy; but are stigmatized, labeled and also ostracized from the community alongside their parents who are affected by Leprosy. With this stigmatization and discrimination, the children are unable to obtain an education from local government schools; they are stuck in the four walls of the colony that houses their parents. Without proper education, inclusion and exposure, these children are burdened by low self-esteemed and are diminished in their ability to pursue their dreams.
Persons suffering from leprosy face thousand indignities every day. They are ostracized from their communities, abandoned by the government and even their love ones. They do not have access to care and are therefore faced with poor health outcome. I have seen firsthand the adverse effect of the horror of this disease in the two centers i visit year in year out. Leprosy takes away your human dignity. It takes away the very essence of being, by engulfing one with shame and low self-esteem; it takes away your pride and keep you in isolation from the things and people you love.
Please they need your help to break the deep stigmatization cycle that follows them, especially the Children who are not affected by leprosy; but are looked at through the eyes of their parents, out of no faults of their own.
Your contributions will help us keep the children in school, with school supplies, uniforms, a library & recreation center.
Your contributions will help us create a skill acquisition center to train them. By keeping the children in school, they will have a better and secure life of dignity, become strong, smart and independent. When you support this cause, you will be giving dignity and self-worth to the forgotten and abandoned. Your gift is going to buy them security.
While the children need support, the parents will depend on the generosity and kindness of others to live a life of dignity. Please consider giving to help this community. Your gift will provide them with basic necessities to improve their lives, design sustainable income generating programs to buy them dignity, self-worth, independence and are therefore, productive members of our community. There is nothing that gives a man dignity, more than a man that is productive, generates his own income and does not have to be dependent on handouts.
For the past (8) years, Hope's Door Foundation has worked closely with this communities; donating yearly school supplies to keep the children in school, reading glasses, Industrial sewing Machine for the shoe factory, renovating the dormitory, donated mattresses, Pillowcases, provided inmates with specially made shoes, maintenance / repair of equipment are at the shoe center, food, medication, clothing, sanitary materials and educational field trip for the children. We need you r help , because their needs are enormous and we can not do it alone.
Please help us to stop the persistent stigmatization, abandonment, prejudice and misunderstanding of leprosy that continues to be a stubborn barriers for the people affected by leprosy and their family members to overcome, especially the children. These families are abandoned in life and also at death. Together we can help them to be healed physically, spiritually and emotionally and returning them to lives of dignity, hope and pride, by giving then a chance through our support.
Please donate anything you can to help this beautiful Children & their families. It is all about restoring dignity, independence and it is about making them see their self worth.
