Throughout recent months, we've spent a lot of time thinking and talking about community.
As the MDI community rose to meet the challenge of the pandemic, creating potent avenues for supporting each other, we have thought about the future of this community as we face the many challenges of the climate crisis. We strongly believe that MDI possesses the commitment, vision, compassion and spirit needed to face those challenges through building strong networks of solutions and resilience today. We have seen that work already unfolding over the past five years. From ACTT’s beginnings at communal conversations around a kitchen table to the way the community rises to strengthen our projects; from the passion of our youth interns to the support that truly makes the work possible - it is clear that this community understands the power of care and dedication to working for positive change.

It is difficult to look at the pictures of the fires in California or read recent reports on the increased pace of climate change and not feel overwhelmed and paralyzed. But we must remember this critical fact: we have the solutions at our disposal. We just need to employ them. And that is what ACTT has always been about: solutions-focused action. A Climate to Thrive seeks to achieve energy independence for Mount Desert Island, Maine by 2030. We are bringing all four MDI towns together and making the island an epicenter of citizen engagement, environmental sustainability, and economic vitality. ACTT is making MDI a model in these respects by showing other communities across Maine, New England, and nationally that these actions simultaneously enhance economic well-being and quality of life.
