End of life fundraiser for Betty & Benny
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
This is so difficult for me to write and I've been putting off doing it for a while. Sadly, both Betty & Benny are coming to the end of their lives and I want to have the funds in place to be able to give them the most dignified passing, that they both deserve.
For Benny, this will mean having a vet come to the house and performing the euthanasia. Benny doesn't travel well and due to our vet being a 45 minute drive away, I am not prepared to make this journey just to have him put to sleep at the end of it. It doesn't seem fair. To have a vet come out to us and then have Benny's body cremated and his ashes returned to us, will cost around £600.
With Betty, we will have to go to the vet, unless she passes naturally at home. This is due to avian vets being few and far between. The cost for Betty's final journey will be around £200.
For those of you who have followed our animals, you'll know that Betty had Egg Yolk Peritonitis and was given another implant to make sure her reproductive system didn't produce eggs. Despite this, she has never fully recovered and is now having crop issues and is generally in poor health. She has done so well, coming to us as a sad looking and bald battery hen and developing into a feisty, mischievous, boss lady! Betty is now around nearly 7 years old, which is a good age and we want to continue to make her comfortable until the time comes that she needs help passing over.
Benny came to us from Romania nearly 5 years ago. It took him a long time to become the wonderful family dog we know today due to the trauma he had already suffered. He had 3 legs when he arrived and used to walk and run completely fine unaided. As the years went by, his mobility slowly decreased and now he is unable to walk without his quad wheelchair. He is on a high dose anxiety medication, pain medication and is semi incontinent. Currently he still enjoys a short daily walk as well as his food and treats, however it is obvious that his life is becoming less and less enjoyable. I want to be able to provide him the comfort he deserves in his own home for his final journey.
I hope that both my dear friends will be with us for Christmas, but as I write this (end of October), I really feel that Betty in particular is not long for this world. Her good days are getting fewer and she looks tired. We take it day by day with both of them, but knowing the funds are in place to make the arrangements will make this awful process a little lighter.
All donations, no matter how small, are so very gratefully received. Thank you so much in advance for your kindness and compassion.
