End of Life Expenses for Tina Barberas Family

Donation protected
It is with great sadness that we share this news about my sister, Tina.

19 years ago Tina went in for spinal surgery and after her surgery, she aspirated. Tina stopped breathing for 25 minutes before she was resuscitated. The result left her in a vegetated state for the past 19 years. As a family, we have faced every challenge that comes with an injury of this magnitude. Tina has fought hard over the years and her injury has taken a toll on her body. My parents have dedicated their lives to providing the most amazing care and love to Tina. At just 38 years old, Tina’s body is starting to get tired and my parents were left with a decision no parent should ever have to make; Turning off their child’s lift support as she enters hospice.

My father is a retired NYPD officer and 911 first responder. Like many other officers who had to endure the tragedy of 911, he has began to have health issues. His pension has been absorbed by their health coverage to provide 24/7 care for my sister. He was forced to have to go back to work to be able to provide for himself, my mother and my sister.

A mother takes care of us like a devoted nurturer and protects us like warriors, this encompasses my mother. She has dedicated her life to caring for myself and my sister’s; and now her grandchildren. She never says she can’t help. She’s always there when we need her and now she needs us.

I’m asking for our community, family and friends if they could open their hearts to help out my devoted parents prepare for Tina’s end of life expenses. We understand that not everyone may be able to contribute, but please know that emotional support and spreading the word are equally valuable. During these difficult times, it is the strength of our community that brings hope and healing. Thank you in advance for your kindness, generosity, and support. We are immensely grateful for your help during this challenging time.

At this time, our main concern is that my parents can grieve without worry. We greatly appreciate any source of support that may be offered to assist in maintaining their household expenses and funeral arrangements during this unimaginable time.
