Please help Los Angeles Alliance for Animal save the animals at Griffith Park and Pony Ride and Petting Zoo.
Geriatric ponies and farm animals are suffering terribly at Griffith Park and Pony Rides and Petting Zoo. Animal cruelty laws that should be protecting the geratric ponies and farm animals have failed them with no enforcement from Los Angeles Animals Services and Los Angeles Recreation and Parks renewing the contract in June during the mists of violations of animal welfare laws. Now, the contract is up for renewal again and we must stop it!!!
Los Angeles Alliance for Animals has documented footage of elderly ponies on the turnstile not receiving water for almost seven hours in 90 F, elderly ponies being overworked with no protection against 100 F temperatures or periods of rest, elderly ponies being prodded for several hours to provide rides to children when they refuse to move any further, a sheep dealing with heat stress, geriatric ponies with unknown wounds on their body, geriatric ponies with algae in their water, geriatric ponies with lameness providing rides to children disregarding her instability/medical needs, and rabbits sitting in the hot sun with no shade or water in the petting zoo over the summer.
Due to public pressure, the City of Los Angeles assigned a third-party equine veterinarian to report on the well-being of the ponies and horses at Griffith Park Pony Rides earlier this year. The veterinarian reported ponies with saddle sores, hoof issues, lameness, and dental problems. Based on dental examinations, the vet found many of the ponies to be between 20 and 30 years old.
Equine expert have confirmed that the geratric ponies have severe depression, yet they are forced to carry children on their back for seven hours, six days a week.
The Los Angeles City Council and Los Angeles Recreation and Parks renewed the Griffith Park and Pony Ride contract during the midst of violations of animal welfare laws, and has been advised that Stephen Weeks continues to break the new provisions of his new contract of geratric ponies not being allowed to work above 95 F, yet the geratric ponies worked in Los Angeles heat waves of 100 F, while they were being hit to provide a ride. Despite all of this, the pony operator Stephen Weeks remains open.
No one in Los Angeles City cares about the animals at this park. Its now time for a lawsuit. Please donate to help the abused and neglect animals at Griffith Park and Pony Ride and Petting Zoo!
