You can make a difference by donating through the St. Andrew Alumnae Association, Inc. Washington DC Chapter (Washington Dc Metropolitan Chapter) to support the students at the St. Andrews High School for Girls in Kingston, Jamaica. The Association is a charitable organization dedicated to the advancement of education for students who attend the school. [Note: Pictures taken pre-COVID.]
The Association, in partnership with the St. Andrew High School Foundation, is sponsoring an end of year fundraising opportunity.
This fundraiser aims to raise US$20,00 to support nearly 1,600 students who attend one of Jamaica’s top tier high schools.
COVID has crippled traditional in-person funding raising. However, the physically distanced learning environment now requires laptops with licensed software and internet data cards IN ADDITION TO pencils, pens, and books. Fulfilling the need to provide the necessary equipment and emotional support would easily cost US$50,000.
However, we are starting small with this end of year fundraising sprint to raise US$20,000.
WHY IT MATTERS!
In the five to seven years that students attend St. Andrew High School for Girls, they are provided a well-rounded educational experience that builds their confidence while providing a solid academic foundation.
This nurturing environment encourages the students to aspire to be whatever they want to be. The path has been cleared by alumnae.
As doctors, lawyers, authors, artists, scientists, engineers, businesswomen, and mothers and spouses, alumnae are making global, regional and local contributions in all areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM).
The challenges of the COVID environment poses a real threat to the students' ability to achieve similar successes. This is our opportunity to demonstrate that they are not alone.
We can provide much needed funding to support the teachers and staff to provide a rewarding, albeit physically distanced, learning environment for the students.
This virtual GoFundMe US$20,000 opportunity runs through midnight on December 31, 2021.
It will support two immediate fundraising goals:
- US$10,000 to provide the school (teachers and students) with funding for laptops (new and replacement), data plans for internet access, and necessary supplies to support academic success and emotional well-being for students and teachers; and
- US$10,000 to purchase and maintain software licenses required to provide all round STEAM education while supporting the students in their physically distanced learning environment.
Yes, the goal seems very ambitious, but we can do this!
Let's break this down:
• 1,000 donors giving US$20 each = US$ 20,000
• 200 donors giving US$50 each PLUS 100 donors giving US$100 each = US$ 20,000
• 400 donors giving US$ 50 each = US$20,000
• 10 donors giving US$ 1,000 PLUS 400 donors giving US$25 each = US$20,000
