I have several chronic health problem that first appeared in 1994. They have gotten progressively worse year to year and steadily reduced my mobility. In 2006 I finally had to give up on becoming a writer/professor and dropped out of my PhD. work. Unable to work, I had to move home with my mother. She is lame and degenerating mentally due to dementia. I have become her 24/7 caretaker and it is extremely draining on me both physically and psychologically. A heavy duty, canopied mobility scooter would allow me to get breaks from that situation, relieve some of the errand running burden from my sister and give me some independence and freedom. It would also allow me to help more at my church. Then I could feel I was making more of a contribution to society.
Why this particular scooter? For one, most regular ones have a weight limit that is lower than my actual weight and have less storage capacity for grocery shopping and other larger purchases. Secondly, I have a phobia and allergies to flying insects, especially mosquitoes and would be more relaxed in an enclosed space. Of course if someone out there has one they would be willing to donate we could use the funds raised here to pay for shipping cost. Just a thought.
