UPDATE:
I want to thank the Ballantyne's, Maureen Lodewick, Karna Gendo, The Olsen's, The OCampo's, The Gilbert's, The Thomas', The Koziel's, The Zeugner's, The Nelson's, The Canales', The Barrall's, The Mozelsio's, The Reed's, The Yuen's, The Laub's, The Weisner's, The Woidat's, The Hunt's, The Guthrie's, The Lodewick's.  Together we have raised $2100!

The Bench's are arriving this week (week of 11/22/2021)!

Summary:

My name is Alexander Lodewick.  I am an athlete coming back from injury.  During my downtime, I realized how grateful I am to have had such an amazing experience in sports through my coaches and teammates and wanted to do something as a way to give back.  In Boy Scouts, members have Eagle Scout projects they pursue.  This is my own sports based community service project: permanent benches for Wilder 4 (for which I have requested and received approval through Orinda Parks and Recreation).

I want to fund raise to purchase permanent (but moveable) benches for Wilder Fields.  In this way, we can provide a better experience for athletes and stop having clubs and teams waste money on portable benches that break and are commonly seen abandoned by the trash cans at the fields.  If you would please consider donating $10-$20 towards this purchase, this goal can be easily achieved: I am getting close to reaching my fundraising goals.  $1500 gets two 8 foot benches, $2100 gets two benches with backs.   If you could also please pass along the message!

For more of my goals as an injured athlete, read on and/or visit my website GettingHappi.com:

The Getting Healthy Actively Promoting Positivity Initiative (Getting Happi) is an effort to create a team for giving back. It is inspired by the injured athlete who is often found rehabbing and training alone and provides a platform in which these athletes can connect with teammates (and non-athletes) alike and commit to the same goal that we have in sport: working together towards a higher purpose.

My name is Alexander Lodewick and I have suffered a femoral shaft stress fracture just as sports were opening back up this spring during the covid-19 pandemic. As a result, I have not had an opportunity to compete in nearly 2 years. During this time I was inspired to come up with some way that I could continue to work and connect with my teammates whom I admire so greatly. I wanted to contribute back to the community. I run and play soccer. Wilder Fields is a beautiful sports complex but currently none of the fields has player benches. Parents of the varying sports programs in the Lamorinda (and broader) community are asked to bring their own portable benches. These commonly break and amass in the landfills. We can do better. As a student at Campolindo High School, we have beautiful thermoplastic coated steel benches that have survived decades. Their size and weight prohibit theft. They are virtually indestructible.

This project will support the acquisition of 2 of these thermoplastic coated steel benches.  These will be portable benches (but very heavy weighing 83 lbs) that will be situated at Field 4 (or other field at the discretion of Orinda Parks And Recreation).

But this project is not about me but rather about us. Together I believe we can easily attain the funds necessary to complete this project. I would ask that you contribute $10 or more to the Unselfie Bench Project. If you note the team that you are a part of, I would like to capture a picture of the team (or two or three) that has raised the most money for these benches. I would then like to post the picture as an Unselfie on the GettingHappi Instagram page.

I would also like to add that I hope this Unselfie project is an inspiration to others and that the community of Getting Happi can continue to connect and give back to the community. Please reach out to me if you have interests in other Unselfie Projects that we can generate team action. For instance, I recently participated in a Trail Rehabilitation Program with volunteers on the running and walking trails around Mammoth Lakes, CA.

Thank you for your consideration,
