Amber was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2024. If you are not familiar with what that is, it is a cancer that occurs when plasma cells in the bone marrow grow out of control and form tumors.
Amber has been going through chemotherapy, but her next step is to have a stem cell transplant. Praise God that a donor in California matched 8 out of 10 markers with her! Starting on January 7, she will have many visits back and forth to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta to prepare for the transplant. Protocol is to undergo a very hard chemotherapy treatment and the next day, February 20, she is scheduled for the stem cell transplant. When someone undergoes this treatment, their immune system is like a baby’s immune system. They are basically starting all over again with immunizations, and they are very vulnerable to catch any and every kind of infection or virus that they are exposed to. So, they are instructed to not go out in the public for several months. The doctors have told Amber that they would like to keep her away from the public for six months. This means that she cannot work and will need a lot of financial help. She is a hard-working, single mother of a 16-year-old daughter. She is one that does not like to accept help of any kind from anyone, but I practically begged her to allow me to make this GoFundMe account. Without our help, there is no way that she could make it financially for 6 months. She doesn’t have family to lean on, and so she needs us for prayers, encouragement, and financial assistance.
Somehow the two of them get by off of $36,000 a year. I’ve asked her to give me a good number of what she truly feels like she comfortably needs during this (minimum of) 7-month process. Although she has filed for short-term disability, she was denied due to the fact that she is still currently working at the time that she filed. However, she is reapplying for it now that she has taken her medical leave from work. We pray that she will be reconsidered for disability, and I will update the goal once/if she gets approved.
Because she hates to accept monetary donations, she also created an Amazon registry of things that she was told would be very helpful once she is home from the hospital. I am attaching the link below if you would prefer to purchase an item rather than give a monetary donation.
Thank all of you so much for your contributions in making a very, very scary and difficult time a little less stressful by taking away Amber’s financial burden. If you feel led to give, but can’t offer much, even multiple $5-$10 donations add up!
Thank you, and blessings to all of you for taking the time to read this.
