Hi, my name is Lisa. My sister Sally and I created this gofundme to help cover burial expenses.
For those of you who knew our dad, you knew he was the biggest dork with the biggest of dreams. One of the things he'll always be remembered for is his daily inspirational quotes and translations. Every morning, the first thing he'd do is sit in front of his computer and make a poster. He sent a beautifully translated poster to everyone he knew, every single day like clockwork. It still feels a little weird not hearing my phone go off at 4pm telling me dad was awake on the other side of the world.
My dad didn't really know how to express his feelings verbally so he did so with pen and paper. I remember one summer we got into an argument and neither of us had the courage to talk it through. Instead, he wrote me a letter and left it on my pillow. Writing letters and cards was such a big part of who he was and I can't imagine anyone would disagree. Every year, on my birthday, I looked forward to reading the birthday card he wrote more than the actual gift itself. Well...that might partly be because he had terrible taste in gifts. Just kidding dad, I love the bedazzled hot pink shirt and matching pants.
Everyone who knew him would say he was a kid at heart. He knew how to enjoy the small and simple things. He approached life and people with open trust and compassion. Sure, it got him into trouble a few too many times, but it never stopped him from seeing the best in people. He wanted to spread kindness everywhere he went. He often encouraged me to look at the positive side of things and to be understanding of other people's perspectives. Whenever he entered a room, he'd fill the room with his infectious energy. He had a neverending amount of lame dad jokes to put a smile on our faces. He was the most genuine and cheerful person I knew. He never let anything weigh him down or sour his mood. All those who knew him truly loved him for who he was. Many of his friends reached out to us to tell us that God was just taking back an angel.
Here's one of my favorite dad jokes from him (translated from Chinese):
"Wu...wu..wu...wu wu wu... (imitating sobbing sounds)
A few days ago, something unfortunate happened to one of my good friends, we keep in touch every day and night
Now... sigh...
Probably can't be saved!
He fell from a really tall place, maybe x10 his height, into the water, he was quickly pulled out of the water, but... sigh...
I think we can't keep in touch like we did anymore
I got no choice but to change a new toothbrush and let go of the old one.
Wu~
Wu~"
COVID took you from us too suddenly. Rest in peace dad. We miss you and love you. One day we will all be together again.
Donations will help cover the costs of transportation and the funeral. All donations are greatly appreciated, anything helps!
