What Is En El Nombre de Él ( In His Name ) ?
En El Nombre de Él (In His Name), is the story of Maria, a devout seamstress living in 1930s Peru. After discovering her husband, Juan, in an affair, an attempt to confront him leaves their relationship in shambles. To mend their marriage in the eyes of God, Maria begins sewing cloaks as an offering to the Virgin Mary.
This evocative, bilingual short film delves into the intersection of religion and the female experience within a cultural context. It explores the delicate interplay between faith and cultural identity, emphasizing and illuminating the intricate dynamics of these themes.
Cielo Yáñez, writer & director, has ingeniously adapted this screenplay, originally penned by her mother, Micky Bolaños, as a part of her upcoming novel. United by their passion for storytelling, they've combined their talents to craft this narrative that is bound to enthrall and unite diverse audiences.

Our Team
Our team is primarily women-led, and a dynamic blend of dedicated, creative, and highly experienced individuals breaking into the film industry.
Cielo Yáñez - Writer & Director
Cielo is a Peruvian immigrant filmmaker, currently attending LA Film School with a focus in directing. She looks to portray her culture through her passion for film.
"Words cannot capture how honored I am to be telling this story. This is truly one of those projects that is bigger than oneself. I believe it is time to tell the stories that represent women in disadvantaged communities. Stories that are harsh, real and uncomfortable, and forces society to take an introspective look. We could not have picked a better group of people to make this film a reality, including my grandmother, mother, and sister, who are the strong powerful women in my family who have shaped me to be so as well. It fills my heart with so much joy to see how many people are already invested in this story, and I cannot wait for the rest of the world to see it."
Micky Bolaños - Writer & Producer
Micky is a Peruvian journalist, teacher and published author with a passion for historical novels and folklore stories.
"I am excited to work on this project, not only because it is a story that I wrote, but because Cielo is a young director with a very human and inspiring vision, with a deep sensitivity and great passion that infects the entire team. I am sure this is going to be a great experience."
Jahleesa Escobar - Producer
Jahleesa is a Salvadoran-Fillipino female filmmaker currently studying in Los Angeles. She believes in uplifting the voices of real individuals with genuine stories to tell.
"En El Nombre De Él (In His Name) is a true testament to the experience of many women in disadvantaged communities. This story presents the harsh reality that independence is not always a choice for women outside of the Western world. Cielo and I believe in using film as a medium to tell real stories, especially cultural, female-led stories. We are very excited to collaborate with a team of young filmmakers to bring this story to life and share some aspects of latin culture as well as the experience of women around the world."
Olivia Upton - Line Producer
Olivia is a freelance production manager & producer from Massachusetts, and currently based in Los Angeles, California.
"I'm so honored and thrilled to be a part of such a raw story that truly can break boundaries. I can't wait to further my work with this wonderful team to help ensure everybody has the means to bring this film to life in the most beautiful way possible, and contribute to telling a story that all women can empathize with."
Luna Yáñez - 1st Assistant Director
Luna is a Peruvian filmmaker and producer.
"This project hits on a personal note, since Mom wrote this original story and sister Cielo is directing it. She has worked in the TV industry for several years and only hopes to bring her experience into this set."
Mia Parham - 2nd Assistant Director
Mia is a female screenwriter currently studying at the LA Film School in Los Angeles, California.
"When I first got the chance to read the script for this production I just knew I had to be a part of it. This story is unique and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. I can’t wait to work with a talented team of people to bring this story to life."
Darsh Desai - Cinematographer
Darsh is a cinematographer from Mumbai, India, who is currently working professionally in Los Angeles.
"I read the script alongside my mom. She was uncomfortable in her own skin. And it only seemed to grow until, with a certain sense of acceptance she said 'it’s the reality of numerous women back home, in India.' Cielo wrote the untold story of so many women, and now I have the privilege of telling the same story through my favorite medium, my camera."
Sofia Navas - Production Designer
Sofia is a Venezuelan immigrant focused on Production Design & creating an openminded space to represent the world we see around us.
"The second after I read this script, I wrote to Cielo, “this feels like home.” Not only do I see myself, the women in my family, and generations of Latin people, but also a relatable piece not shy of expressing raw, intense emotions. It’s a privilege to represent our community in this story."
We cannot thank you enough, from the bottoms of our hearts. Your time, support, and interest is more than we could ever ask you. Thank you for playing your part in the creation of En El Nombre de Él (In His Name.)
