Teaching in Japan

Hi everyone! My name is Ashley, and I am a senior at Indiana University. I am going to school to become a Secondary English teacher and will be getting a license addition to teach English as a new language. As part of the teaching requirements for my licsene addition, I will be flying abroad to teach as a part of the Global Gateway Program at IU. This fundraiser is to help me afford my expenses while abroad.

I will be traveling to Japan for 8 weeks to teach English at the university level, working towards getting my license addition to teach English as a new language. While I'm away, I will unfortunately not be getting paid. While I have money saved up, my rent unexpectedly increased and I am worried that I will not be able to afford my bills while I'm gone.

This is important to me because I will not only be getting more teaching experience before I'm in the field next fall, but I will also be learning and immersing myself in a culture, not of my own. This trip will not only expand my teaching toolbox by getting to work under great professors but also allow me to learn more about the world around us and bring this knowledge into the classroom.
