EMT Who Helps Others in Need of Help Herself
Stefanie Thompson is an Emergency Medical Technician who I worked with at the 2017 Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree and the 2019 World Scout Jamboree. She is a devoted mom, raising two sons, and she is trying to create a better living situation for the three of them on a tight budget.
Stefanie recently purchased a land lot with an older trailer with a side building and garage/workshop added. She has been renovating the trailer, and she has found that the renovations were a bit more extensive than she initially thought. It is amazing the projects she has undertaken, completely removing the old floors, walls, electrical lines, water heater – and much more. This is such a credit to her will to make this happen!
In order to move in though, and still continue the renovations, the family needs to repair/replace structural items like the flooring, the basic kitchen units, seal the roof, and finish at least one of the bathrooms. After the family gets moved into the trailer, she can apply for a USDA HUD loan, which would enable her to be able to afford to fix the rest of the home. Here’s the kicker, though. At this point, Stefanie has purchased /procured as much material/supplies as she was able to afford up front. Her current situation now is that she can only afford to procure additional supplies as each paycheck will allow. This situation will leave her still unable to move in, and thus also not be able to apply for the HUD loan – a lose/lose situation.
One of the big problems in this story – the COVID pandemic. For some reason, one repercussion has caused the cost of building supplies to skyrocket. For example, plywood sheets that were $15 are now closer to $40 (and she needs at least 30). She has also seen similar increases for 2x4 lumber, insulation, duct work, the HVAC system, flooring and even roof tar.
Stefanie is at her wits end and not being able to move forward. She feels very helpless with her family situation. It is absolutely out of her comfort zone and not in her character to ask for help, so I am asking for her.
Can you help support Stefanie to get over this hump via this Go Fund Me as she tries reach the point where her family can move into the home and she can procure the HUD loan to help cover the remaining costs? Every little bit helps! Thanks, and God bless.
