Jaime's Cancer Treatment

Hi there! Jaime is one of my best friends so I’m starting this to do something for her that she wouldn’t do for herself. If you know Jaime, you might not know what she has been dealing with for the past few years, but she needs our support now more than ever.

After a long year of horrible health issues, Jaime was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer, with a massive tumor. She had to stop working and start treatment shortly after. She had a port put in that ended up causing her to become septic, requiring a 2-week hospital stay and a blood transfusion. Once she was able to start treatment, she went though high dose radiations 5 times a week, on top of chemo once a week. Once treatment was over, she had surgery to remove any remaining pieces of her tumor, where the doctors unfortunately found an additional mass that had not previously been spotted on her scans. They realized now, her initial diagnosis should have been stage 4.

Details for future treatment are still being ironed out, waiting on her most recent test results. What we do know is that Jaime will have to go through full blown chemo treatments for about 18 weeks, which will be starting soon. She will lose all of her hair and has already started looking at wigs, which will run around $1,000 each. She has been unable to work since October, with an estimated 6 months or so longer ahead of her, and has already exhausted any state-paid benefits for wage replacement.

The overall expenses from chemo, radiation, hospital bills, wigs, food, bills and day to day life expenses are still unknown, but we know it’s not cheap. Anything helps to provide some sense of relief while she manages the effects of treatment and stress of the situation.

*Update: Jaime’s chemo treatments are now pushed back due to an emergency surgery with two subsequent hospitalizations (due to complications from the surgery). It has been one thing after another for our friend, meanwhile she has no stream of income. One of her friends has very graciously offered to match, dollar for dollar, up to $20,000! Let’s keep this going!
