Because of recent family events my mother, Em Quiles, is facing eviction and needs to be out of her home by Monday, November 15th, 2021. The appeal she submitted to extend her eviction was denied and because of the short notice she’s left with some last minute expenses that she cannot afford. In order to quickly and effectively move out of her home she needs to raise enough money to afford a moving truck, storage for her belongings, boxes, and other packing materials. As well as the amount it will cost her to rent a room. Though she can enlist the physical help of family and friends to help her move, there's little to no financial help for her. My mother’s pride would never allow her to ask for help but unfortunately this is the reality she’s facing. So I’ve taken the liberty to set up this GoFundMe for her, in hopes that anyone who can help will help. From those who know her best, to those who’ve simply said hello. Anything helps, and any donation made in her honor will mean more to her than you’ll ever know.
Em Quiles is the founder of Pa’Lante: Latinx Moving Forward which is a community lead organization dedicated to Latinx empowerment by increasing civic and political engagement to be the catalyst for change. She is also a Cultural Curator for local Black and brown artists by providing them a platform to showcase their work so that it is amplified beyond the constraints that exist within Black and brown communities. She volunteered to be one of the co-organizers for the Black Lives Matter Mural that is located on Major Taylor and MLK Boulevard. She worked tirelessly to ensure that Black artists were the project leads and for the Worcester community to feel included during this historic event. Lastly, Em Quiles is the co-founder of the Worcester Beacon, a local journal that gives a spotlight to rising journalists reporting on the needs or events in the Worcester community that often get overlooked. She helped create this platform for inspiring journalists to practice reporting on what they feel is news in Worcester.
It is a challenge to encapsulate what Em has done in the Worcester community and the love/support she has. Em Quiles is a constant inspiration not only to me, but to many others because she is genuine in her passion and in her advocacy. However, she is in desperate need of help from the community she has worked tirelessly to amplify.
