Em's Gender Affirming Care (Top Surgery)

Hi! My name is Em (they/them) and I am a Master's student who has a passion for the creative arts, queer activism, and queer representation. I am raising funds for my top surgery and thank you for being here to support my journey! Please read below if you are interested in knowing more about why this is important to me as well as the financial aspects to this surgery that are often inaccessible to folks like me.
What is top surgery?
According to the Government of Canada, it is suggested that there are multiple facets of transitioning (1). These include but are not limited to social transitioning, legal transitioning, medical transitioning, and more (1).
Getting access to gender-affirming care can pose a challenge for many individuals (2). Though insurance can cover a portion of the cost, this is not a blanket statement to all (2). Further, the Government acknowledges that, "Most Canadian provinces and territories cover the cost of some gender reassignment surgeries... they also don't all cover masculinizing surgeries such as chest or body contouring" (1, 3).
Why this is important to me
This would be a step that is not only important to the way I am presenting to the world but also provides me with a sense of gender euphoria – that is, I feel like me – and this is something I cannot wait to experience. I have been through the process of consultation, referral, another consultation and finally am excited to be going through with the booking of my surgery.
