Emry Kay Mueller was born to her parents, Gabby Olson and Luke Meyer on June 5th 2018. She spent 39 days in the NICU. Once she was released the doctors kept a close eye on her heart and knew that surgery would be needed around 3/4 months old. They needed her strong and healthy as can be! They decided that once she hit 10lbs it was time to schedule it.
On Wednesday, September 26th, Emry began fighting a completely different battle. She went in for a heart surgery to repair 3 of her valves that were not pumping properly. The surgery was supposed to last 5-6 hours and then she would begin the journey to recovery.
The day did not go as planned and after 6.5 hours in surgery we found out that part of Emry's heart tore in surgery. A part that was not even being worked on. The doctors said that they have never seen this happen in a baby so young. They have only seen it in older people whose heart has scaring.
The next 24 hours were crucial. Emry was under observation to make sure that her organ functions, brain activity and pressures/levels were stable; she passed all the tests!
However, she remains on bypass at this time. Her little heart is not strong enough to support her and she needs a new one. Emry is now at the top of the heart transplant list - this is excellent news! Now we must patiently wait.
The next goal for Emry is to remain stable. Tomorrow they are hoping to start the process of switching her to a smaller machine that will hopefully be easier on her and give her heart a chance to do a little work itself.
Luke and Gabby will be at the MN Children's hospital indefinitely to be there for our little heart warrior. This Go Fund Me account is going to be used to help them on this long road. Luke and Emry will not be returning to work, they will be at the hospital indefinitely while waiting for a heart for Emry and will need to be close by after as well; probably at the Ronald McDonald house.
Any support you can provide to help Luke, Gabby and Emry is so appreciated. This little girl has our whole hearts and now we need to fight and pray for a new one for her.
