Help Dante get his operation

Dante's Story

We are currently running other fund raising activities for Dante and we have a FUNdrasing day coming up on 26th March.  The goal for the campaign is £4,000 but the target will reduce as money from external fund raising activities are added, we have £1,350 of external donations and so the target has now been reduced to £2,650...............

Dante is a German Shepherd, he was born on 7th June, 2013.  His story touched our hearts so much that we had to try to help Dante's owner Julie Travis to give him the pain free quality of life this magnifincent boy deserves.  Whatever you can spare will be an enormous help, at the moment he has nothing in the fund  :(

In Julie's words..................... 'Dante a is very loving, kind natured boy, the apple of my eye, but also my best friend and so when he became ill at just 19 months old and started behaving like an old man, I was dreadfully worried.

I had noticed he couldn't put weight on his right hind leg, he could no longer get in or out of the car and even the small kitchen step was too much for him and he would often yelp in pain for no apparent reason.

Xrays and an MRI scan revealved that Dante had lumbosacral stenosis and disc prolapse.  Treatment involved an operation called a dorsal laminectomy and discectomy;  to remove the disc and part of the vertebrae as ths would release the pinching on Dante's spinal cord.

Dante's prognosis was good and according to the vet, he woud soon be able to run and play again, pain free.

My insurance did not cover the full cost of the operation, nor the afterccare he would require and being a single mum running a small business from home, I struggled for cash and ending up paying using credit cards.  I had to do everything in my power to help Dante, I love him so much, he is my baby and I could see the pain in his eyes everyday, my heart was breaking for him.

Unfortunately things didn't go quite to plan, as although Dante's recovery from his operation was good, less than 6 months later all the symptoms had returned and my boy had pain  his eyes once more.  I was completely shattered and utterley devastated to realise that the operation had failed and my poor Dante was back to square one, drugged up and sleeping most of the time.

This meant he now needed another MRI scan,  which revealed that the work done in the operation last year has collapsed and was compressing his sciatic nerve.

The operation he now needs is a dorsal laminectomy and discectomy, with distraction and stabilisation of vertebrae, this means the surgeon will remove part of the disc and push the vertebrae apart and then pin and cement it into place, to prevent it from happening again.

Hi prognosis looks good and although the insurance has covered the MRI scan, the operation and aftercare comes at a price of around £4000.  I am still paying off credit card bills from last year and I don't know how I will manage another 4K.

I am a very private person and have never asked anybody for help in my life, but I cannot see my gorgeous boy suffer any longer and so please would you help me to help him?  He is only 2 years old and he deserves a life without pain.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, at the very least it is a comfort to know that people may be thinking about him.   Julie Travis'
